Sandra Turner, stopped by Mornings with Lou Anne and Tim today to share a very important message. She wants you to know that, you have the power to save someone’s life. And that power is in your bone marrow.
The life you save may be her sister’s. Her sister Karen was diagnosed with Leukemia and a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant is the only cure.
Turner is encouraging everyone between the ages 17-35 to consider registering at www.blood.ca/stem-cells. Registering is a simple process, you just have to answer a few health screening questions. A swab kit is then mailed to you, once you swab your cheek the kit can be returned in a postage paid envelope.
Sandra’s efforts to help her sister don’t stop there however, a benefit for Karen will be held tomorrow night at the Grand Gardens North, doors open at 6pm.
There is also a GoFundMe page to help with the medical expenses. Karen has at to relocate to Ottawa for 5-6 months for treatment; accommodations allow could cost as much as $10,000.
