SPEEDER TRAVELLING OVER 125 KM/HR IN 50 KM/HR ZONE CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On December 20, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 12:00 a.m., police observed a westbound car travelling at a rate of speed of over 125 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone on Causley Street.  A traffic stop was initiated and the driver’s licence seized and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

As a result of the investigation, Samuel PEDDAMUDIUM, 26 years of age from Cambridge, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more km/hr, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 30, 2019.

 

DRIVER CHARGED AFTER SURRENDERING EXPIRED LICENCE

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON)- On December 21, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 17 in the Village of Iron Bridge.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., police observed a pick-up leaving a local grocery store. The officer queried the plate and revealed the driver was suspended. A vehicle stop was initiated as it entered onto a property on Highway 17. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, surrendered and expired driver’s licence.

As a result of the investigation, Kevin BERRY, 55 years of age from Iron Bridge, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
  • Possess Licence While Prohibited, contrary to section 47(6) of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 20, 2019.

 

HUSBAND ASSAULTS HIS WIFE – MALE CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On December 21, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to domestic assault that had occurred the night prior in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined, the victim and her husband began to consume alcohol the night prior. Shortly after 2:00 a.m., on the morning of December 21, 2018 an argument ensued and the husband became physically assaultive towards his wife leaving her with bruising to her upper arms and face area. The female had left the residence and attended the local hospital.

The investigation also revealed the victim had been physically assaulted two weeks prior by her husband leaving her with facial bruising.

As a result of the investigation, a 32 year old male from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:

  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm-Spousal, contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
  • Assault-Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on January 10, 2019.

 

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED- MALE AND FEMALE CHARGED

(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON)- On December 23, 2018, shortly after 1:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and a member from the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) responded to a break and enter and a suspicious vehicle at a property on Walkhouse Bay Road within the Territory of Serpent River First Nation.

Officers attended the area and observed the suspect vehicle heading towards them on a trail. The officer attempted a traffic stop by activating his emergency lights and boxed in the vehicle preventing it from leaving. A male exited the vehicle and fled into the bush, while the female exited the passenger door and surrendered to police.

With the assistance of an APS officer the male was located walking out of the bush and was arrested. The officer located a small baggie containing suspected crystal methamphetamine as well as suspected hydromorphine.

A query of the vehicle plate revealed the vehicle was stolen on December 19, 2018, from Brussels, Ontario.

As a result of the investigation, Paul RAYNER, 45 years of age from Goderich, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC;
  • Operation While Prohibited (X5), contrary to section 320.18 of the CC;
  • Trafficking in Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth), contrary to section
  • 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and with
  • Trafficking in Schedule I Substance – Opioids (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(1) of the CDSA.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on December 24, 2018.

Lindsay WILLIAMSON, 30 years of age, of no fixed address, was charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC; and with
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Other Drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on February 14, 2018.
