Male Charged in Historical Sexual Assault Case


On November 29, 2018, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment commenced an investigation into a historical sexual assault that occurred between January 1, 1985 and December 31, 2014.

As a result of the investigation, Kim Shanahan, 60 years age from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, (formally of Blind River, Ontario), has been charged with:

Sexual Interference (X5), contrary to section 151 of the Criminal Code (CC);
Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age (X5), contrary to section 271 of the CC;
Invitation of Sexual Touching Under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the CC;
Sexual Assault (X3), contrary to section 246.1 of the CC; and with
Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario on February 14, 2019.
