Environment Canada has issued a Freezing Rain Warning for Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding areas which is expected to last for several hours. Freezing rain is expected or occurring. Several hours of freezing rain are expected before ending later this afternoon or early evening.
For portions of the region further north towards Wawa, a mix of snow and ice pellets will continue today. Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible by the time the snow ends tonight. Local blowing snow is also likely.
Freezing rain warning in effect for:
- Sault Ste. Marie
- St. Joseph Island
- Montreal River Harbour
- Batchawana Bay
- Lake Superior Provincial Park
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.
Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
