(ESPANOLA, ON) – On Thursday, February 7, 2019, a member from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol of Highway 17 in the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers, Ontario.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., the officer observed a vehicle stuck on the railway line crossing into a private drive-way. The officer immediately requested a stop train order with the Huron Central Railway, and assisted by pushing the vehicle clear of the tracks.
There were no injuries and the rail line was opened shortly after the removal of the vehicle.
Vehicle drivers are reminded that if they are stuck on railway tracks that they should exit their vehicle, remain clear of the tracks and immediately call 9-1-1 to report it.
