Several female students from four Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will be making their way to the Sault Ste. Marie Home Depot on Wednesday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take part in Home Depot Workshops. Members of the media are welcome to attend.
The purpose of these workshops is to provide students with the opportunity to explore various building trades. It is also a good way to demystify specialized trades for girls and enable female students to learn about rewarding careers in this sector of the economy. Statistics reveal that women are under-represented in the construction, industrial, service, as well as the motive power sector. By participating in this type of activity, the CSCNO is seeking to raise the level of girls’ confidence while initiating them to non-traditional careers. The CSCNO thanks Home Depot for its support in providing this initial workshop initiative for female high school students in the Algoma district.
The schools that will be participating in these workshops are École secondaire Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River), École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau), École secondaire Saint-Joseph (Wawa) and École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie).
