(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On April 17, 2019 at approximately 3:26 p.m., East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were conducting a Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) on Pearson Drive in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.
Police stopped and checked a male driver operating a motorized scooter. Investigation revealed that the scooter did not have a proper plate, there was no insurance, and the driver was suspended. Additionally, the driver was wanted from a previous assault investigation. Subsequently, the driver was arrested, charged, and the plate was seized.
Patrick BARRY, 24 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:
Use Plate not authorized for motor vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA,
Fail to surrender motor vehicle permit, contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the HTA,
Owner operate motor vehicle on a highway – no insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA),
Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC).
The accused is scheduled to appear to before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 4 and 5, 2019.
