East Algoma OPP lay charges in break and enter

(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – On May 6, 2019 at 12:02 a.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an alarm at a commercial building on the Serpent River First Nation.

When officers arrived at the scene they observed evidence of a break and enter. A suspect was not immediately located, but believed to have recently departed before police arrival. As a result, the OPP Canine Unit was deployed and was successful in locating a male subject.

As a result of the investigation, Keifer LEWIS, a 24-year-old male from Serpent River First Nation was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Break, Enter a place – Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Fail To Comply With Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC

He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 11, 2019.
