(BLIND RIVER, ON) – After a snow-filled, mixed weather, winter and spring, the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) expects to see many eager citizens and visitors of Ontario taking to the roads, trails and waterways this Victoria Day Long Weekend.
The 2019 Canada Road Safety Week Initiative began on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 and will end Monday, May 20, 2019. Officers are well into the campaign and have been active on local roads, trails and waterways.
“There can be tragic consequences for unsafe operation of vehicles and boats. Please take the time to get to where you’re going safely and have an enjoyable long weekend” – East Algoma OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Tyler Sturgeon.
The focus of this initiative includes the “Big Four”, which is impaired driving, lack of occupant restraint use, aggressive driving and distracted driving.
All motorists, boaters and off-road vehicle users are encouraged to take charge of their own safety and to ensure the safety of their passengers. Being in charge of a vehicle or vessel is an important task and safety is increased by operating within the limits of the law.
