Impaired charges laid in three separate East Algoma incidents

Traffic Complaint Results In Impaired Charges

(TOWNSHIP OF NORTH SHORE, ON) – On Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 9:14 p.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17 in the Township of North Shore.

The investigation has since revealed that a pickup truck was observed to be swerving all over the road. Police located the vehicle shortly thereafter and a traffic stop was conducted. Police spoke with the driver and determined that he had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Lorne SHIPMAN, a 52-year-old from Brimley, Michigan was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario on September 5, 2019.

 

Speeding Results In Impaired Charges

(ST. JOSEPH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Sunday, the 4th day of August, 2019 at 5:42 p.m., a member of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 548 when he had occasion to observe a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted. The officer determined that the driver of the vehicle had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Randolph DUMANSKI, a 73-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario on September 5, 2019.

 

Motor Vehicle Collision Ends With Impaired Charges

(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – On Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 5:23 a.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police to a report a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 on the Serpent River First Nation.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the uninjured driver. Officers determined that he had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Levi BELSITO-CHIBLOW, an 18-year-old from Mississauga First Nation was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario on August 22, 2019.
