OPP respond to single vehicle collision caused by impaired driver in Garden River

(GARDEN RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – On August 20, 2019 at approximately 5:40 p.m. members from the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment and Algoma Emergency Services (EMS) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, Garden River First Nation, Ontario.

The single male occupant was transported to Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of further investigation, Mathew KNIGHT 36 years-old from Macdonald-Meredith-Aberdeen Additional Township, Ontario was charged with the following:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with breath demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 9, 2019 located at 426 Queen Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
