East Algoma OPP arrest impaired driver 42 minutes into festive R.I.D.E. season

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On the 23rd day of November, 2019, members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere) spot check on Hanes Avenue in Blind River.

At 12:42 a.m., a motor vehicle approached the R.I.D.E., but then turned onto an intersecting street. An officer pulled in behind the motor vehicle which turned into a driveway. After speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Mathew TURNER, 34 years of age from Blind River was arrested and charged with Adult Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on December 19, 2019.

The East Algoma OPP are dedicating time to participating in the Festive R.I.D.E. Season which began on November 23, 2019 at 12:00 a.m. Thus far the East Algoma OPP have conducted 12 R.I.D.E. checks and will continue their efforts as the holiday season approaches.
