On December 30, 2019 at 10:37 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members responded to a call of a possible impaired driver that had just departed from a local business on Manitoba Road, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.
A vehicle description and plate number were provided to police. The complainant reported the driver was exhibiting signs of impairment. Police patrolled the area and later located the vehicle pulling into a driveway on Oakhill Road in Elliot Lake. The driver was spoken to and a strong odour of alcohol was detected emanating from their breath. As a result, the driver was arrested, driver’s license suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.
William ASTLEY, 51 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:
- Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on February 4, 2020.
