Impaired driver takes to a snowbank in Elliot Lake

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On December 23, 2019 at 12:46 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were called to a single motor vehicle collision on Esten Drive South, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ontario.

Police attended Esten Drive South to find a small car which had crashed into the snowbank and the hazard lights were flashing. The driver was not injured and a strong odour of alcohol was detected emanating from their breath. As a result, the driver was arrested, driver’s license suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Shelby BOB, 24 years of age, from Goulais Township, Ontario was charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC,
  • Class G1 License Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver, contrary to section 5(1) Regulation 340/94, of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on January 7, 2020.
