Elementary teachers announce next job action set for next Wednesday

TORONTO — The union representing Ontario’s public elementary school teachers says it will continue rotating strikes across the province next week.

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario says that teachers at Thames Valley, Rainbow and Rainy River school boards will walk off the job on Wednesday.

The union is taking the job action in a bid to ramp up pressure on the government during tense contract negotiations that have been ongoing for months.

Elementary teachers have said they will begin rotating strikes on Monday if the government refuses to address critical issues in talks by the end of today.

All four major Ontario teachers’ unions are now engaged in some type of job action as contract talks with the government appear to have stalled.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce has repeatedly said the key sticking point in negotiations with high school teachers is compensation.
