Vehicle Driver Charged for Breaching Conditions

(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON) – On February 20, 2020, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Highway 17 within the territory of Mississauga First Nation. Police observed a northbound vehicle on Village Road with the rear of the vehicle completely covered in snow. A traffic stop was initiated for the obstructed plate.

The investigation determined the driver was in breach of a curfew and was arrested and taken to Blind River OPP detachment where he was lodged.

As a result, Michael SCHELL, 33 years-of-age, from Sudbury, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Failure to Comply with Release Order-Other than to Attend Court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on February 21, 2020 and was remanded into custody.

 

Driver Charged for Suspended Licence in Bruce Mines

(BRUCE MINES, ON) – On February 20, 2020, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the Town of Bruce Mines. Shortly before 10:00 p.m., police observed a westbound vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Taylor Street and a traffic stop was initiated. A query of the driver’s licence revealed the driver was suspended.

As a result of the investigation, Chelsea LADEROUTE, 22 years-of-age from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:

  • Driving While Suspended contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on March 25, 2020.

 

Driver Charged for Suspended Licence in Blind River

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On February 17, 2020, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the Town of Blind River. Shortly after 9:00 p.m., police initiated a traffic stop on Causley Street where a driver’s licence query revealed the driver was suspended.

As a result of the investigation, Jennalea CADA, 35 years-of-age from Elliot Lake, Ontario was charged with:

  • Driving While Suspended contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on April 15, 2020.

 

Blind River Resident Charged with Fraud in Thessalon

(THESSALON, ON) – On February 3, 2020, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the East Algoma Crime Unit, responded to a fraud occurrence at a residence on Dawson Street in the Town of Thessalon.

As a result of the investigation, Danielle LAFRANCE, 30 years-of-age, from Blind River, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

  • Fraud Under $5000, contrary to section 380(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Use, Deals, Acts on Forged Document contrary to section 368(1)(a) of the CC -four counts; and with
  • Theft Under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC;

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on April 2, 2020.
