(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On April 4, 2020, shortly after 1:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17, where an eastbound vehicle was swerving all over the road.
Police observed the vehicle entering the Blind River town limits and initiated a traffic stop near the junction of Causley Street and Longview Avenue. The officers determined the vehicle was uninsured, the licence plates were not authorized for the vehicle and the vehicle was unsafe.
As a result of the investigation, the vehicle was towed and the driver Scott MARTIN, 71 years of age from Komoka, Ontario was charged with:
- Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway-No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act;
- Operate Unsafe Vehicle, contrary to section 84 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
- Use Plates Not Authorized, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the HTA.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on August 6, 2020.
