New confirmed case of COVID-19 reported by Algoma Public Health

COVID-19 Algoma

The Algoma Public Health is reporting a new COVID-19 case in a resident in the Algoma district. A male in his 40s was tested on April 22nd and is currently self-isolating after contracting the virus due to close contact.

This marks the 13th confirmed case in the Algoma District. To date, a total of 1,772 people have been tested with 1,328 tests returned negative and 431 still pending results. A total of 9 confirmed cases are reported to have been resolved.

Algoma Public Health is indicating that 9 confirmed cases are in Sault Ste. Marie and area with evidence of community spread. Elliot Lake and area is listed as having less than 5 confirmed cases, Central and East also listed with less than 5 and North Algoma has yet to have seen a confirmed case to date.


Central & East Algoma includes: Blind River, Bruce Mines, Hilton, Hilton Beach, Huron Shores, Jocelyn, Johnson, Mississauga First Nation, Plummer Additional, St. Joseph, Tarbutt and Tarbutt Additional, The North Shore, Thessalon, Thessalon First Nation

Elliot Lake & Area includes: Elliot Lake, Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Spanish

North Algoma includes: Dubreuilville, Michipicoten First Nation, Missinabie Cree First Nation, Wawa, White River

Sault Ste. Marie & Area includes: Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Laird, Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional, Prince, Sault Ste. Marie
