TWO DRIVERS CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OPERATION

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON) – On April 25, 2020 at approximately 9:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) Conservation Officer that was out with a vehicle on Sherwood Road within the Municipality of Huron Shores (north of the Town of Thessalon) and the vehicle driver was unlicensed.

OPP attended the scene and spoke to the driver and concluded alcohol had been consumed. The driver was transported to the Thessalon OPP detachment where further testing was conducted.

As a result of further investigation, Jesse PETERSON, age 28 of Barrie, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation While Prohibited-Legal Restriction from any other Act of Parliament or Provincial Law, contrary to section 320.18(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Use Plates Not Authorized for Vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA),
  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the HTA, and with
    Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance, contrary to section 2(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 4, 2020. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

 

(MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES, ON) – On April 25, 2020 at approximately 6:20 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a possible impaired driver. Police located the vehicle on Little Rapids Road within the Municipality of Huron Shores.

After speaking with the driver, officers concluded alcohol had been consumed. The driver was transported to the Thessalon OPP detachment where further testing was conducted.

As a result of further investigation, Peter BOYD, age 68 of Thessalon, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC, and with
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 4, 2020. The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

 

OPP INVESTIGATES DOMESTIC DISPUTE

(BRUCE MINES, ON)- On April 26, 2020 at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Cunningham Street in the Town of Bruce Mines.

As a result of further investigation, officers arrested and charged a 57-year-old, from Bruce Mines with:

  • Assault – Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Two Counts of Uttering Threats-Cause Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC, and with
  • Killing or Injuring Animals, contrary to section 445(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 2, 2020.

 

OPP CHARGE DRIVER-NO INSURANCE

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On April 24, 2020, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., OPP conducted a traffic stop and determined the vehicle was uninsured.

As a result of the investigation, Dwayne KUZUCH, 48 years-of-age from the Municipality of Huron Shores was charged with:

  • Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway-No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is schedule to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River in July 15, 2020.

 

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO A CURFEW BREACH

On April 26, 2020, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., police observed a vehicle on Causley Street with a driver that was known to the officer who was breaching a curfew.

As a result of the investigation, Jason GUY, 35 years-of-age from Blind River was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to Comply with Release Order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 4, 2020
