Driver and Passenger Charged

(ESPANOLA, ON) – On June 7, 2020, at approximately 7:45 p.m. members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious vehicle on Cemetery Road, Espanola.

Police located the vehicle and determined the driver was impaired and both the driver and passenger were in possession of suspected controlled substances.  Police seized suspected cocaine, purple heroin and methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $23,034 and a quantity of Canadian currency over $6,000.

As a result, Dean MCNICHOL, 45-years-old, of Espanola was charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance-methamphetamine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on August 10, 2020.

The driver was served with a 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Samantha ST.MICHEL, 39-years-old, of Espanola was charged with:

Possession of a Schedule I substance – Heroin contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA, and
Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 – in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on August 10, 2020.
