Heavy Rain and Wind Warnings Issued


Wind warning in effect for:

Espanola – Killarney
Manitoulin Island – Blind River – Thessalon
Strong winds gusting up to 90 km/h are expected this afternoon and tonight.
A strengthening low pressure system is forecast to track across northeastern Ontario today. This system will bring southerly winds gusting up to 70 km/h this morning except for areas near Georgian Bay where gusts to 90 km/h are expected this morning.

Winds will then shift to very strong westerlies late this afternoon gusting up to 90 km/h across all areas. Winds are expected to ease by Monday morning.

Power outages are possible.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

Blind River – Thessalon
Espanola – Killarney
Manitoulin Island
Rain at times heavy continues today.

A total rainfall of 40 to 60 mm is possible before the rain transitions to snow this evening. The heaviest rain is expected along a stretch of highway 17 from Thessalon to Espanola.

This rain event is associated with a strengthening low pressure system that is forecast to track across northeastern Ontario today.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
