Shortly after 11:30 p.m., on November 20, 2020, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Government Road in Johnson Township when police observed a pick-up truck parked in the middle of Government Road with its lights off.
The vehicle then quickly turned its lights back on once it noticed a vehicle coming from behind which was an OPP officer. The officer then followed the pick-up truck at a distance at which point the vehicle accelerated on Cloudslee Road in Plummer Additional Township.
Police activated their emergency lights and the vehicle immediately turned into a residential property and accessed a trail beside the driveway. The pick-up truck then accelerated in heavy mud but was unable to continue as the trail had come to an end.
