Two Charged For Stealing Christmas Lights

On November 26, 2020, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged two people in relation to a theft related occurrence from a residence on Taylor Boulevard in Elliot Lake.

On November 21, 2020 the complainant notified the OPP that numerous outside Christmas ornaments had been stolen from the front lawn sometime overnight. After requesting assistance on social media, witnesses reported information on two people who were bragging about stealing the items. And, the items were inside their home at present time.

On November 26, 2020, police attended the residence on Capillo Road and a search warrant was executed. Two people were arrested and the Christmas ornaments were retrieved. In addition, police learned the two people were breaching numerous release conditions from prior charges.

Ryland ASAPH, 41 years of age, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

Theft Under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 355(b) of the CC,
Fail to Comply with Probation Order (Two Counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC,
Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court (Three Counts), contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.
Scarlet LOWES, 28 years of age, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

Theft Under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 355(b) of the CC,
Fail to Comply with Probation Order (Two Counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC,
Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.
Both accused persons were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on November 27, 2020.
