OPP Charge Driver for No Insurance

(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON) – On February 17, 2021, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the community of Mississauga First Nation.

Police were conducting traffic enforcement and shortly after 11:15 a.m., a traffic stop was initiated on Village Road. A query revealed the vehicle was not insured.

As a result of the investigation, Olivia STEVENS, 45 years-of-age from Blind River, was charged with:

  • Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway, contrary to section 2(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on April 27, 2021

Drive While Suspended Charge for Driver

(MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION, ON) – On February 17, 2021, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the community of Mississauga First Nation.

Police were conducting traffic enforcement and shortly after 11:45 a.m., a traffic stop was initiated on Park Road.  A query revealed the driver was suspended.

As a result of the investigation, Jaime MORNINGSTAR, 43 years-of-age from Mississauga First Nation, was charged with:

  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on April 27, 2021.

Failing to Attend Court

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On February 17, 2021, at approximately 11:00 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called in relation to a person passed out in a hallway at an apartment building on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.

Police and Algoma Paramedic Services attended the location. The person was assessed and released by paramedics. Police arrested the person for failing to attend court at a previous date.

Myranda FRANCOEUR, 26 years of age, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Appearance Notice – Court/Fingerprinting, contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on April 6, 2021.
