Health Sciences North

Health Sciences North is reporting that as of noon today, Thursday April 8, a total of 16 patients have been admitted to the hospital in Sudbury who have tested positive for COVID-19. Of those patients, 6 are currently in the ICU. Additionally, 15 more patients have been admitted who are currently being tested for the virus and awaiting results.

The COVID-19 outbreak on the 7B unit of HSN’s North Tower, originally declared on March 16, is now over. A total of 4 staff and 4 patients were impacted by the outbreak. HSN would like to acknowledge and thank all staff and physicians in this unit, colleagues with HSN’s Infection Prevention and Control Team and Public Health Sudbury and District for their vigilance and hard work in dealing with this outbreak.

While this particular outbreak is over, additional infection, prevention and control measures will remain in place on the unit including strict hand hygiene, heightened infection surveillance, additional use of personal protective equipment, laboratory testing and enhanced cleaning and disinfection. Designated Care Partner restrictions have been returned to one person allowed per patient for this area.

HSN is continuing to monitor a COVID-19 outbreak on 6 North. The outbreak remains contained and there is no evidence of further transmission among staff or patients.

With the province wide stay at home order that has come into effect in Ontario as of Thursday, and with the prevalence of Variants of Concern in the Sudbury District, HSN is advising everyone to follow the guidance from public health and do their part to reduce the chance of spreading or catching COVID-19.

Under the current restrictions, it is illegal to gather indoors with people not from your household. Stay home except for essential purposes such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services, or for essential work. Monitor and screen for symptoms of COVID-19, get tested for COVID-19 if you have any symptoms, wear a mask and practice physical distancing.
