THEFT INVESTIGATION RESULTS IN ONE BEING CHARGED

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On April 10, 2021, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of a generator from a residence on Laborne Avenue in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined the generator was taken between 12:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. from a step in the backyard on April 10th. Shortly after 3:30 p.m., police located the generator at a residence on North Street in the Town of Blind River and an individual was arrested.

While police were searching the person, officers located a glass pipe and a small amount of suspected crack cocaine in a container in his pocket.

As a result, Jason MCCALLUM, 41 years-of-age from Blind River was charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime-Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and with
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance-Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 3, 2021.

OPP LAYS ASSAULT CHARGE

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On April 10, 2021, shortly after 7:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault on Poleline Road (off of High Road) in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined there were two vehicles that met each other on the single lane dirt road. The occupants exited their vehicles and an argument ensued between two people and escalated to where a punch was thrown at the victim.

As a result of the investigation, Riley PICHE, 20 years-of- age from Blind River, was charged with:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 3, 2021.

EAST ALGOMA BLIND RIVER TRAFFIC CHARGES FOR THE WEEKEND

On April 9, 2021, officers from the East Algoma Detachment of the OPP responded to:

  • A two motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in the town of Spanish shortly after 1:00 p.m., where a 61 year-old driver from Aylmer, Ontario, was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with:
    • Change Lane-Not in Safety, contrary to section 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
    • No non-life-threatening injuries sustained
  • A traffic complaint on Highway 17 in the Township of the North Shore shortly after 3:00 p.m., where a westbound car was driving erratically and dangerously. Officers located the westbound car on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.
    • The 29 year-old driver from Elliot Lake, was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:
      • Careless Driving, contrary to section 130(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and with
      • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the HTA.
  • On April 11, 2021, shortly after 3:00 a.m., police were on patrol duties on West Street and issued two municipal parking infractions where two vehicles were parked in a fire access route, contrary to section 7.1(g) of the Blind River Bylaw 1514.
  • Officers issued provincial offence notices for speeding in the Town of Blind River and Highway 17.
