TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right-hander T.J. Zeuch on the 10-day injured list due to right shoulder tendinitis and recalled infielder Santiago Espinal from the club’s alternate training site.
Zeuch, who made two starts over four appearances this season, was 0-2 with a 6.75 earned-run average over 12 innings. The IL move was retroactive to Monday.
The Toronto pitching staff has been hit hard by injuries but still entered Tuesday night’s game in Boston with an American League-best team ERA of 3.07.
Closer Kirby Yates will miss the season due to elbow issues. Other sidelined hurlers include Nate Pearson (adductor), Thomas Hatch (elbow), Tyler Chatwood (triceps), Julian Merryweather (oblique), Ross Stripling (flexor) and Jordan Romano (ulnar neuritis).
Espinal was active for the opener of the two-game series against the Red Sox, the Blue Jays said in a release.
