East Algoma OPP Lays Theft Charge

(BLIND RIVER, ON) – On July 20, 2021, shortly after 9:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a stolen generator sometime overnight at a residence on Hudson Street in the Town of Blind River. The complainant provided video footage where a person could be seen carrying a small generator from the complainant’s backyard.

Police identified the suspect person in the video and on this same date at approximately 9:30 p.m., police observed a male on Glenn Avenue matching the description of the suspect in the video and an arrest was made.

As a result, Christopher MERCER, 42 years-of-age from Blind River, was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (C)
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 355(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on September 9, 2021 and the generator was later recovered.

East Algoma OPP Arrests Wanted Person

(THESSALON, ON) – On July 21, 2021, shortly after 9:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a person that may be wanted by police and was walking on Walker Road in the Town of Thessalon.

A short time later police located the person and confirmed the person was wanted and as a result, Robert BOUCHARD, 36 years-of-age from Thessalon, was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to Attend Court After Having Appeared, contrary to section 145(2)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on July 21, 2021 and was remanded into custody.

East Algoma OPP Lays Mischief Charge

(SERPENT RIVER FIRST NATION, ON) – On July 21, 2021, shortly after 2:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance on Rio Subdivision Road East in the community of Serpent River First Nation.

Investigation determined that persons were visiting in the community and one of them began to smash the complainant’s car and along with damaging the windshield. The accused left the area on foot and was later located hiding in a wooded area behind the property on Rio Subdivision Road East.

The accused was transported to East Algoma Blind River Detachment and lodged until sober.

As a result of the investigation, Joseph DORE, 39 years-of-age, from Thunder Bay was charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on October 7, 2021.

East Algoma OPP Lays Fail to Comply Charges

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 21, 2021, shortly after 2:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a family dispute at an apartment complex on Mississauga Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake.

Investigation determined the complainant wanted a person removed from the residence. Police located the unwanted person hiding in the apartment lobby who was in violation of a release order.

As a result of the investigation, Trenton RICHER, 24 years-of-age, from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order-other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC (two counts)

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on July 21, 2021 and was remanded into custody.

East Algoma OPP Lays Fail to Attend Court Charge

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 21, 2021, shortly after 10:00 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a failure to attend court complaint in the City of Elliot Lake.

A person with an outstanding bench warrant was arrested at East Algoma Elliot Lake Detachment and as a result, Jean Marc LALONDE, 53 years-of-age, from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Failure to Attend Court After Having Appeared, contrary to section 145.2(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on September 7, 2021.
