Charged With Impaired


On March 15, 2022, shortly after 5:45 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Leacock Street in the Town of Blind River.

A short time later police located the suspect vehicle parked on Leacock Street. As police were speaking to the driver, officers determined alcohol had been consumed.  The driver refused to comply with the Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) and was arrested.

A subsequent search of the vehicle located an empty bottle of wine as well as a half bottle of open liquor.

As a result, Jessica BEAUCHAMPS-SCHELLEKENS, 34 years-of-age from Blind River was charged with: Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 5, 2022. The accused was issued a 90-day Administration Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
