(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON)- On May 4, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two separate traffic complaints reporting that there was a broken down pick-up truck in the westbound lanes on Highway 17 near Lauzon Village Road in Algoma Mills.
Police arrived on scene a short time later and observed the pick-up truck to have a flat tire, parked on a hill/curve portion on the highway partially positioned in the live lane. The driver was slumped over with the vehicle running and was later arrested.
Police searched the pick-up truck and located over three grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and the driver was transported to local hospital and released into police custody.
As a result, Jason GUY, 37 years-of-age, from Blind River was charged with:
- Operation While Impaired-Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on July 7, 2022.
